The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
Columbia Residential manages a portfolio of over 150 residential buildings located in Morningside Heights and serves a University community of more than 8,000 faculty, staff, postdoctoral appointees, graduate students, and select undergraduate student residents. The department is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and administration of more than 5,700 University-owned or managed residential units.
The Locksmith B is responsible for performing skilled locksmithing work in support of Residential operations, security, and building maintenance needs. This role installs, repairs, adjusts, and services a wide variety of mechanical and electronic locks, door hardware, key systems, and security devices across campus buildings and facilities. Locksmith B works as part of the RM-Shop team to ensure safe, functional, and secure access for the residents and staff.
Responsibilities
Perform locksmithing tasks required by work orders, maintenance requests, and preventative maintenance schedules including service logs, inventory documentation, and key records
Manufacture, cut, issue, and maintain physical keys using manual and automated key-cutting equipment
Install, repair, and service locksets, deadbolts, door closers, hinges, panic/exit devices, and associated hardware
Remove, adjust, realign, and reinstall doors for proper alignment and operation
Install and troubleshoot automatic or hydraulic door closers, including systems with gearboxes and solenoids
Diagnose and resolve issues with malfunctioning locks and doors
Provide to leadership assistance with plan and maintain master key systems
Maintain strict control of sensitive locking systems and key records
Ability to open locks without keys by utilizing trade tools to ensure no additional damage to door
Reprogram and service electronic locks, card-access locks, and keypad systems
Use shop computer and software for key codes and lock management
Coordinate with other trades for repair, renovations, and preventative maintenance
Communicate with tenants and stakeholders to support access and security needs
Ability to suggest products for the repair or project needed
Ability to maintain shop cleanliness, inventory levels, and tools are kept in good condition
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Five (5) years of journeyman-level locksmith experience
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to utilize a PC
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Knowledge of Maximo Work Order system is preferred but not mandatory
Ability to carry/lift up to 50lbs
Ability to walk between buildings within the Residential Portfolio
Licenses
Valid City of New York Locksmith and Keymaker License
