Job Summary Under direct supervision of the Lock Shop Supervisor, works from written and/or verbal instructions and established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks which are routine in nature. Perform duties involved in the maintenance and alteration of door lock hardware for campus buildings and structures with a career path directed toward master locksmith.
Responsible for following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
Assist in installs, repairs, rebuilds, and services mechanical or electrical locking devices, using hand tools and special equipment.
Disassembles door locks and repairs or replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
Assist in repairs on wood and metal doors and door frames.
Assist in making keys.
Repair or change key combinations.
Ability to read, interpret, and follow basic maintenance procedures of various locks.
Makes minor repairs as requested on work orders in a timely, accurate manner.
Sand, scrape, patch, or repair surface and joints in preparation for finishing.
Assist carpenters and other trades in the repair of doors and electronic systems that affect the proper latching and locking to maintain security of the campus.
Additional duties as assigned.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of related work experience.

Basic Mechanical Skills
Must be able to lift 50 pounds daily.
Must be able to communicate, both written and verbally, in English
Knowledge of general power tools.
Must provide necessary hand tools, a list of required tools is available upon request.
Must maintain a valid California driver's license throughout the course of employment.
Must be able to stoop, bend, pull, and kneel throughout the workday.
Requires a background investigation and physical examination prior to an offer of employment.
1 year or more of work experience in a university or facilities setting is a plus.
Certificate of completion or formal training in the carpenter field.
Proficiency with automated work order system and timekeeping application is a plus.
