Reporting to Michigan Medicine Security Key & ID Administrative Manager, the Key Office Supervisor is responsible for planning and developing the key systems for Michigan Medicine, including primary responsibility for the security and integrity of the systems and management of the lock shop. Job focus will be planning and creating key schemes for remodels and new construction and overseeing the entire mechanical lock and key aspect of access control for Michigan Medicine.
Plan and develop institution-wide key systems with primary responsibility for the security integrity of the systems and management of the lock shop.
Develop and implement long and short-range plans for key systems requirements of all new and existing Michigan Medicine buildings.
Supervise employees who install, service and repair traditional and electronic key systems, doors, and door hardware.
Advise contractors and hardware suppliers regarding the key systems requirements for all Michigan Medicine projects.
Approve, install, and maintain all Master Key Systems within Michigan Medicine, ensuring adequate security and compliance with Michigan Medicine requirements, regulations, and fire codes.
Maintain accurate records of keys; when they are distributed and returned.
Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and equipment for lock shop operations.
Establish and maintain liaison with top administration regarding key systems and key systems problems.
Select, train, supervise and evaluate locksmiths and support staff.
Participate in the development of the lock shop budget, departmental policies, and procedures.
Perform safe cracking activities as required.
Approve Grand Master Keys.
Assure compliance with affirmative action and safety programs.

Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in positions of demonstrated growth in responsibility within staff supervision and project management.

Background in design and layout of master keying and management of key code and key systems.

Solid knowledge of doors, hardware and locksmithing.

Strong customer service skills.

Must be able to fulfill the requirements to operate a UM vehicle.

Candidates must successfully pass a thorough background investigation and drug screening.
Certified Registered Locksmith or higher.
Three to five years’ experience with key management and distribution and access control
Significant experience with access control systems and related software.
Experience with a variety of key cutting hardware.
Experience with multiple vendor types of key/key control systems and software.
Experience with the application of large institutional key control and building access policies.
Typical Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8AM-4PM, with need for flexibility based upon customer demands.
