Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Locksmith performs all duties related to the journeyman-level locksmith position. The incumbent will work on all campus buildings and infrastructure, houses, and trailers as assigned.
Performs a full range of journey-level skilled Locksmith duties such as installing, repairing, remodeling, and maintaining manual and automated locks and lock systems and security devices; low voltage computerized access control systems; and door openers, closers, and hardware.
Maintains and repairs equipment for all types of locks, fastening devices, and related hardware; electronic locking and security systems and devices, programs and issue key cards; maintains and repairs automatic door openers, door closing units, and control gates; service and maintain safes; purchase, store and maintain lock systems, hardware, and materials.
Performs system analysis; with respect to existing high-security keying, and analyzes possible interchange and/or security problems; performs lock rebuilding; removes existing locks from doors, disassembles, and rebuilds; performs installation of new panic hardware, door closers, desk locks, cylindrical locks, and mortise locks; opens locks; picks, drills, or otherwise opens any lock on campus; performs high-security lever lock open, repair, and service-open by puller, drill and pick, or punch method repair door and/or service lock - make key - replace.
Experience acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience that demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a locksmith's apprenticeship program.
CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the locksmith trade, including complex access and control systems; all types of locks, fastening devices, and related hardware; working knowledge of electrical locking and security systems and devices.
Thorough knowledge of applicable state codes pertaining to the locksmith trade including those related to fire exits, door hardware, and fastening devices. Knowledge of key blank identification, ace keys, car keys, and key stocking/ordering.
Skills and Abilities to perform journey-level locksmith work; use features of applicable access control systems; read, interpret, and work from shop blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; maintain computerized inventory and master locking systems records; prepare standard reports; provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Ability to operate standard office equipment such as PC computers and software such as Microsoft Office Suite, etc.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5355 - $6528 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5355 - $7801 per month.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday (8am - 4:30pm).
This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
