Provides journeyman-level skills in the repair, resetting, and installation of locking devices and the manufacture of keys. Locksmiths are responsible for repairing, rebuilding, and resetting locks and for cutting keys for locks in buildings, cabinets, and lockers. The Locksmith is responsible for installing, repairing, re-keying, and master keying most door locks on campus. Salary is commensurate based on qualifications and relevant experience starting at $50,357 per year.
Essential Duties:
Maintain familiarity with the problems which arise in locksmithing work.
Repair, alter, and install locks, and keys of various types.
Use equipment, tools, and materials used in locksmith work.
Diagnose locksmith problems likely to be encountered on the campus of UT Arlington.
Organize assigned locksmith work, analyze routine and emergency problems, and develop effective work methods.
Repair locks, padlocks, door locks, and key locks.
Make and repair keys of various types and operate key machines.
Set up and reset locks cylinders; rebuild and install locks; lube, repair, and check locks; make parts for locks and change lock combinations by repining cores.
Requisition needed equipment, materials, and supplies, and see that these are properly safeguarded and recorded.
Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.
Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
Other functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or (GED).
Proficient experience with computer, and the ability to use various Windows-based programs.
Hold and maintain a valid Texas driver's license with no serious violations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) years of experience as a journeyman locksmith with comprehensive experience in the repair, re-key, and installation of locks, and keys including knowledge of SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core.
Proficiency in all phases of duties and responsibilities to be performed.
