ALOA Mission Statement

Through our three primary operating departments, Engineering & Utilities (E&U), Facilities Maintenance Operations (FMO), and Green Building Services (GBS) we maintain the University's energy supply and utility infrastructure, provide facilities support (including MEP, fire safety, custodial, and landscape), and provide a wide range of engineering and technical services that improve efficiency and sustainability
Position Summary:
Performs comprehensive locksmith duties including: lock installation, repair and retro-fit, custom master key system design, automatic and manual door operators, and emergency egress systems, and related structural services.
Position Description
Trouble-shoot, repair, maintain and install: emergency exit devices; mechanical and electronic access control devices, cylindrical and mortise lock-sets of all types and vintages; vault and safe locking systems; door closures and operators; and all door hardware and related equipment.
Maintains logs and records of all building master key systems.
Cuts keys by hand or machine.
Designs and maintains complex custom standard and high security master-key systems.
Performs other core skills of the trade and related duties as required.
Basic Qualifications
A minimum of five years work experience as a locksmith required.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Trade School or Vocational High School Degree preferred.
Must have strong mechanical and carpentry skills with a basic understanding of electronics and ADA building access device requirements.
Working knowledge of all primary access control systems and master key system strategies.
Experience in the installation, repair and retro-fit of electro-mechanical and mechanical hardware systems required.
Must be able to work both independently as well as a member of a team, at times in conjunction with other trades and building support staff.
Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices, perform work in accordance with recognized trade and university standards.
Must be quality focused, highly customer service oriented and able to regularly communicate with peers and customers, clearly and professionally.
Special Requirements (and ongoing conditions of employment):
Must maintain a valid State driver's license and satisfactory driving history.
Must be willing to work in research laboratory environments and around hazardous materials.
Required to wear/use appropriate safety clothing/equipment at all times.
Required to properly wear department-issued uniforms and maintain a professional image at all times.
Must be willing to work overtime in response to campus emergencies or other group business needs.
Required to supply a complete set of hand tools.
Technology Skills Required:
Basic proficiency and understanding of Windows® based software applications.
Demonstrated proficiency with electronic mail, MS® Office, and related desktop and handheld devices and applications required.
Familiarity with smartphone technology and willingness to expand skills with handheld device use as required.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to stoop and bend for long periods of time and work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods, routinely walk to and from various buildings carrying tools, equipment and other essentials to the job site.
Required to wear/use safety equipment and clothing when appropriate and/or required.
