Act as liaison between Chemistry and Facilities to communicate Chemistryâ™s needs. Describe, facilitate and track maintenance, repair, and renovation issues. Work to maintain the safety and security of the departmentâ™s people and facilities. Maintain various records (e.g. renovation plans, preventative maintenance schedules). Facilitate the movement of furniture, equipment, and instrumentation. Work with Facilities and Classroom Management to renovate, maintain, and repair pooled classrooms.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Maintenance: Maintain the departmentâ™s facilities and pooled classrooms by working with Facilities, faculty/staff, and Classroom Management. Obtain quotes and manage scheduling for regular preventative maintenance, balancing facility needs with departmentâ™s budget for building maintenance.
Security:Â Approve key and card-access assignments, and maintain detailed records of them; work with Card-Access and Locksmiths to devise and maintain card-access codes and key systems.Â
Repairs: Manage repairs and budget for the departmentâ™s facilities, buildings, utilities, and specialized equipment (e.g., autoclaves, uninterruptible power supplies, air compressors, etc); respond to emergencies and address them by getting appropriate people on site to fix the issues; trouble-shooting to identify the sources of problems, communicate with repair technicians, coordinate scheduling of repairs to maximize safety and minimize downtime. This also applies to pooled classrooms.
Renovations: Serve as department liaison for architects, engineers, and contractors; review plans to identify possible issues; coordinate outages to minimize downtime; attend weekly construction meetings to answer questions about Chemistryâ™s buildings/utilities/etc.; represent and communicate concerns of Chemistry faculty members. This requires an understanding of laboratory-specific needs, such as fume hoods, temperature and vibrational stability, and humidity controls. This also applies to pooled classrooms.
Safety: Serve on the departmentâ™s safety committee; aid in hazard reporting and avoidance; work with EHS to maintain and develop safe practices and policies; work with Campus Police to prevent, communicate, and resolve unsafe, illicit, or criminal issues.
Provide Logistics Services:Â Arrange for the movement of furniture, equipment, and instrumentation; assess departmental need for new furniture (such as chairs and tables), obtain quotes, and authorize purchases; redistribute or dispose of old furniture, equipment, and instrumentation.
Annual Asset Inventory: Manage the annual asset inventory for the department and respond to the asset accounting team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical school graduate with a certificate in HVAC service technology or mechanical engineering degree in HVAC and building systems including electrical and plumbing, and at least five years of experience in building maintenance management.
Good oral and written communication skills; touch typist; computer literate in word processing, data bases, and CAD software; excellent organization skills.Â
Basic familiarity with various safety codes such as BOCA and NEC, and a basic understanding of OSHA and EPA regulations based on training and/or work experience.
This position requires knowledge of laboratory-specific infrastructure needs due to the sensitive and costly nature of the equipment involved.â‹
Required Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree or equivalent and one year of facilities-related experience or high school diploma or equivalent high school certificate and five years of facilities-related experience.
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Missouri Class E Driverâ™s License may be required depending upon department.

Salary Range
$25.90 - $41.46 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
