Position Purpose: Performs maintenance, repair, custodial, and grounds-keeping tasks that ensure the care and upkeep of school property.
Essential Functions:
Performs preventative maintenance and repairs per work orders, campus-wide. May include limited work with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, locksmith, etc.
Performs grounds maintenance activities, i.e., cutting, mowing, weeding, edging, blowing, planting foliage, and cleaning up damage after storms.
Performs shrubbery and tree maintenance activities, i.e., pruning limbs, shaping hedges, and cutting branches.
Performs pavement and asphalt maintenance activities, i.e., cutting out edges, patching sidewalks, and patching potholes.
Performs structural maintenance activities, i.e., painting playground and field equipment, repairing fences and gates, and preparing athletic fields.
Performs regular preventive maintenance and cleaning of equipment used; makes repairs within the scope of abilities.
Performs cleanup and worksite restoration activities, i.e., picking up litter, disposing of waste and debris, and cleaning surfaces.
Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents to resolve, confine or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions.
Assists with custodial duties, building maintenance, repairs, and other duties as needed and directed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of relevant experience. We will consider applicants without a diploma, provided they can demonstrate over 8 years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated ability to operate various electric, gas, and manually powered tools and equipment, i.e., saws, sprayers, air compressors, mowers, blowers, weed-eaters, and hedge trimmers.
Ability to operate standard custodial and grounds-keeping equipment.
Knowledge of O.S.H.A. requirements and the ability to routinely follow those guidelines and requirements.
Ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to ascertain which people may need immediate assistance and to act accordingly.
Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment.
A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it.
Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in demanding work, including reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption.
Ability to safely and comfortably use a ladder.
Must be able to travel safely and comfortably across a 64-acre campus.
Exposed to a combination of environments, outdoors, within and upon buildings, and shop environments.
Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dust, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, possible pathogenic substances, and toxic/poisonous agents.
