UWMC Maintenance has an excellent opportunity for a full-time day shift LOCKSMITH. The individual in this role will perform skilled locksmith work in the repair, installation and construction of locks and locking devices; make keys. Under general supervision, maintain and repair equipment, door hardware and utility systems, both inside and outside the Medical Center.
Job Duties & Performance Standards:
•Positions in this class perform a variety of journey level duties in skilled locking systems repair and installation work. •Make and supply keys to Public Safety required for staff in their use of offices, laboratories and other facilities throughout the UW Medical Center; •Maintain records of key assignments and locks for buildings on campus; •Repair malfunctioning locks; re-key locks as requested to improve building security; •Maintain Medeco, and Schlage high security master key systems; •Maintain various commercial master key systems; •Order key blanks, lock parts, lock sets, latches and other materials required to maintain a working inventory; •Inspect key and locking systems for buildings; change combinations of safes and vaults; perform emergency keying and opening services on locks and safes; •Estimate cost of proposed locking device installation or revisions; make recommendations for hardware types; •Straighten, repair, install and otherwise service hinges and panic bars, locking and unlocking devices (both electric and manual); door closers and openers; maintain and repair fire doors, door jams; •Install and repair digital commercial keypad lock systems; •Use and maintain hand and power tools such as lock picks, drills, wood chisels, metal grinders, etc.; operate key duplicating machines, drill press, grinders, and other power and hand tools required for accomplishing work; •Maintain digital records through computer applications and programs; •May perform work in other trades; •May lead helpers or apprentices as required; •Perform related duties as required; •Operate motor vehicle.
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years' full-time work experience as a locksmith helper/trainee.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Examination Requirements:
The examination (including written, E & T and oral components) will consist of a scored evaluation of the applicant's training and experience as a locksmith or locksmith's helper, knowledge of locksmith techniques and equipment, ability to repair, install and construct locks and locking devices, and ability to make keys.
Regulatory Requirements
•Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. •Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required. •Must have or pass certification for Medeco lock systems within 60 days of employment.
