North Bennet Street School is seeking an experienced Locksmith and Security Technician to serve as Department Head and Instructor for our full-time Locksmithing & Security Technology program. NBSS students train for employment in the trade through our full-time 9-month program. The program includes theory and practice of tools and machines, all aspects of mechanical security devices including lock installation and service, codes, master keying, removable core, electric strike and card readers, access control, and safe manipulation.
Candidates should be committed to quality and excellence in their work, have the ability to teach and mentor adult students of varying learning styles and experiences, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Successful applicants are locksmiths with at least five years of experience in the field who have great communication skills. Prior teaching experience will be a benefit.
The Department Head is the sole instructor of the Locksmithing & Security Technology department, responsible for delivering the approved course curriculum to the students as well as all administrative duties related to the department. This position also keeps current with the industry and helps to create relationships between the School and potential partners and employers. The Department Head reports to the Provost, and works closely with the Director of Admission & Enrollment and other staff members. All faculty members of full-time programs are supported in their work by a dedicated staff, including the Provost’s office and the Student Life & Career Services office, among others.
The program’s daily schedule is 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and runs from September through May. There is a two-week winter recess at the end of December and a week-long break in March. The projected class size is 13 students, ages 18 and up, with varying backgrounds and experiences, and educational levels ranging from a high school diploma to college degree(s). Students may begin the program at the start of the fall semester or the spring semester.
