Description of Work:
Install, maintain, and repair key systems and other related door hardware and devices. Issues keys and maintains inventory, coding, and control of keys and lock systems. Prepares keying reports and maintains keying records. Performs locksmith work requiring expertise in installing, maintaining, and repairing different types of building mechanical and electronic locks. Cuts new or replacement of keys, able to pick locks for which keys have been lost or broken, and makes repairs of locks as required under all conditions. Maintains adequate and appropriate stock of locksmith supplies and equipment, monitors and reports maintenance issues needing attention to the appropriate authority, and performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Must be available in support of on-call 24/7.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
High school or equivalent experience plus three (3) years of experience in locksmithing. General mechanical ability is required; skills in the use of hand tools and equipment associated with locksmithing and associated hardware are required. Must be efficient at cutting and distributing keys, rekeys, and the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of lock hardware. Must have ability to interpret plans and blueprints and to understand hardware schedules. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills and basic computer literacy. Must have effective work habits including: commitment to quality work, time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, able to multi-task, and good record keeping skills. Must have good judgment in working around moving machinery and electricity. Must have ability to learn and act on new technical and/or complex information quickly.
Valid Nebraska Driver's license and eligibility to drive a University vehicle.
Associate's degree in the building trades preferred. Participation in an apprentice program preferred. Equivalent experience/education. Certification/Licensure Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) by Associated Locksmiths of America helpful. Experience with computer use and efficient in word processing software desirable. Experience with creating and maintaining a pre-defined master key system preferred. Experience with installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic access control devices including security and CCTV systems and mechanical systems including door hardware, hydraulic closing fixtures, and ADA openers preferred. Skilled in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures helpful. Knowledge of or experience with Building Codes, Electrical Codes and Fire Codes preferred.
