University of the Sciences (USciences) has an immediate need for a qualified candidate for the position of General Maintenance Mechanic. This position is responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on the structures and fixtures of The University of the Sciences, conforming to local building codes. Performs general maintenance and repairs on campus buildings and facilities.
Maintains and repairs various types of items, such as doors, building framework, trim, fixtures, glass windows and doors, ceiling tile, floor tile, wall coverings, hardware, screens, and furniture.
Supports the campus painter with painting and wall repairs.
Maintains department inventory of tools and supplies. Orders tools, materials, and supplies as necessary.
Organizes and maintains storage areas.
Uses a variety of hand tools and power tools, such as saws, drills, powered equipment, etc.
Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
Assists with various department project work and minor campus construction projects.
Supports functions of Facilities Department by providing assistance to various trades as needed and as directed by Manager.
Supports the shipping and receiving department during busy times or when the shipper is unavailable.
Cuts keys and repairs locks along with other similar locksmith functions when the locksmith is not available or requires assistance.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must have valid Driver’s License.
Ability to drive a forklift is preferred.
