| Job Summary: The Director of Building Services for Infrastructure Planning & Facilities will provide leadership and strategic vision to approximately 319 support and professional staff (which includes temporaries, on-calls and students). This position is responsible for shaping the department to reinforce collaboration, accountability, and responsibility. This position also promotes an environment that recognizes and supports diversity, creates a climate that values and recognizes initiative, innovation, service excellence, continual learning, stewardship, and the achievement of results.The business areas under this group include:-Building Performance Services - through IPF's core values and strategic objectives, the Building Performance Services team provides anevidence-based approach to measure and direct planning, design, construction and life cycle decision making for the most efficient building operations on MSU's campus.-Maintenance Services - is composed of a crew of highly skilled, skill trades employees to operate and maintain MSU's academic buildings, utility distribution system and perform related services. The Maintenance Services staff maintain departmental facilities and projects through a wide variety of skills and materials, including: metal work, electrical, electronics, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, carpentry, roofing, masonry, locksmith, painting and glazing. Maintenance Services is divided into three sections, Electrical Services, Mechanical Services and Structural Services.-Project Services - is a dedicated group of employees that are on call 24/7/365 to "Keep MSU Running." The department provides project management, design and technical support for multi-craft alterations, improvements and maintenance projects. The department also manages a variety of campus emergencies. Work is primarily self-performed by internal 999 skilled trades labor force. A single project manager is assigned to manage each project from estimation through completion to maintain one point of contact between the customer and skilled trades' staff. Most projects managed by Project Services are small in nature (less than $1 million) with compressed timelines; Project Services also manages a small quantity Capital Projects.As part of their responsibilities, and in order to add value and assist all levels of administration in achieving University goals and objectives, the Director of Campus Services will be responsible for creating a high-performing, transparent and customer-focused organizational group. Minimum Requirements: PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIESThe ideal candidate will possess the following competencies and attributes:-10+ years professional experience is required, in a functional leadership role managing a team of diverse professionals with varied backgrounds and capabilities all working toward measurable bottom-line results and successes.-Proven track record of excellent project management and strategic planning skills and effectively managing multiple projects with various deadlines and budgets.-Experience with positively and productively leading change with previous organizations/facilities.-Exceptional time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.-Outstanding communicator, both written and verbal; especially as it relates to communicating efficiently and effectively with customers, stakeholders and staff.-Experience in construction, maintenance and/or operations of buildings.-Established network connections within field of expertise.-Creative thinker who can also attentively and actively listen and skillfully communicate, knowledgably, with the appropriate level of business acumen to all levels within the university to faculty, administration and staff.-Excellent leadership, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills while promoting teamwork.-Exercises good judgment, with integrity, and observes ethical standards ensuring University policies and procedures are being upheld.-Executes professional responsibilities with due care,competence and diligence in accordance with the standards established for the profession.-University experience is desirable. -Experience in a large, complex organization or facilities is required.-Experience in contract interpretation, negotiation, grievance process and managing a unionized work force.-Experience with analyzing data and developing key performance indicators to develop reports and present findings.-Experience with performance-based budgeting and forecasting.-Experience and a passion for sustainable ecosystems (or environments).EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCEA minimum of a Bachelor's degree in engineering or appropriate discipline, or equivalent; A minimum of five years in a supervisory capacity. A minimum of eight years of progressively challenging management and administration experience and a proven track record of success working with a diverse staff in a Union setting.Experience implementing strategic frameworks, mission, vision, values and action plans.Experience leading within a complex, interdisciplinary, union environment that deploys business intelligence tools for reporting, queries, and analysis.
