Performs all duties of a locksmith. Leads assigned personnel in the performance of work; instructs other workers; corrects and specifies methods. Assures adherence to safety rules, regulations, and precautions by assigned personnel. Develops preliminary cost estimates for installation and repair of locking devices and equipment as required. Orders key blanks, lock parts, lock sets, latches, and other materials required to maintain a working inventory. Estimates cost of proposed locking device installation or revisions; makes recommendations for hardware types. Develops methods and procedures to be followed by assigned personnel. Maintains clean work area and/or clean job site upon completion of assignment. Performs related duties as required.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of institutional lock and key policies and procedures. Capable of being bonded. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Five years' full time experience as a journeyperson locksmith. Education/certification can be substituted for some experience. Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Ability to climb and work from ladders.
