The Institutional Locksmith position in Facilities and Property Management (FPM) provides journey-level locksmith services at Portland State University. The position assists in the management of key control systems across campus and implements new and revised systems.
Additional responsibilities include installing locks, cutting keys, repairs to door hardware across campus and providing project support. The position also involves the evaluation and execution of requests for keys and maintenance repair work orders.
This position will be responsible for entering accurate records of work performed into FPM's computerized maintenance management database.
Institutional Locksmiths frequently interact with campus stakeholders and make recommendations to departments regarding key control system development and implementation. Institutional Locksmiths also assist with key audits.

Must be skilled in the Locksmith trade and tools (e.g., key grinder, lock picks, buffers, and hand tools). Demonstrated knowledge of grand master keying systems. Knowledge of proper and safe use of chemicals and lubricants used in the trade. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, charts, and technical instructions Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and to present facts clearly, both orally and in writing Ability to use a computer to input and retrieve information from the department database system. Possession of a valid Driver's License. Successful completion of a background check.
State of Oregon Locksmith Certification, and Oregon LEB electrical license. Proven ability to perform work in a professional, customer focused manner. Proven ability to communicate effectively. with the diverse campus community and staff. Experience in metal fabrication. Experience in carpentry. Experience in a higher education environment.
