The Facilities Management unit of the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is accepting applications for a Lock Shop Trades Specialist I position. Under the direction of the Supervisor and/or Lead,this position will provide a safe and secure environment for students, Faculty, and staff at West Virginia University. This is done by specifying, purchasing, installing, repairing, rekeying, and maintaining all locks, door hardware, keying systems, safes, and written computerized records of these key systems for the University.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Rekeys locks. Repairs, replaces, or modifies all door hardware such as locks, hinges, closer stops, and coordinators.
Repairs or adjusts door swing so it will operate correctly.
Fabricates and installs doors, wood and metal door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware.
Makes all keys, either original or duplicate, by impression, duplication, or coding.
Performs building maintenance for all door security hardware.
Opens file cabinets and security files, repairs or installs new locks on cabinets; fabricates or repairs parts, levers, and springs for locks that are no longer available.
Performs maintenance and replacement of handicap door hardware (mechanical, electronic, and electrical).
Provides repairs and coordinates with Security in emergency situations such as damaged door locks, safe locks, file cabinets, and key identification. Documents key codes.
Must be able to install, repair, and maintain all electronic locks. Works closely with electronic personnel to ensure proper operations of same.
May be required to operate computers utilizing various software programs such as: Physical Plant maintenance management programs involving work orders and materials accountability, building support systems, and other systems as necessary.
Pay Grade: 13
High School diploma and completion of vocational/ technical training in locksmithing and/or carpentry of up to 18 months
At least two (2) years of experience in the following:
Directly related experience with the mechanical, electrical, and electronic application of the locksmithing trade, including lock systems, lock hardware, and key types.
Related carpentry experience.
Valid driver's license required for driving state vehicles
Physical requirements include the ability to:
Have hand/eye coordination with use of complicated instruments, equipment, and hand/power tools requiring speed and adeptness daily.
Have accuracy, skill and precision needed to rekey a lock daily.
Climb and work from ladders frequently.
